CURATOR

Daniel Mudie Cunningham

Surveyed work of unheralded Australian artist Arthur McIntyre (1945-2003). Comprising loaned works from major collections and the artist’s estate, ‘Bad Blood’ revealed Arthur McIntyre’s steadfast obsession with and compassion for the volatility of the human condition.

Hazelhurst Regional Gallery realised ‘Bad Blood’ as a major partnership with Macquarie University Art Gallery, where a companion ‘work on paper’ exhibition was presented. Dispersed over both venues was a selection of important works that plot key stylistic shifts within Arthur McIntyre’s extensive body of collages, drawings and paintings.

THEME

BAD BLOOD / DISTINCT

As a result of the trusting relationship built with the curator, the design process became more than a mere collaborative effort and developed into one of respect and understanding of the need to retain the essence of the artist’s work, while introducing subtle design elements.

Superimposed typography on the cover image titled ‘East Meets West’, works effectively to demonstrate the concept of design meeting art.
